Parliament Building in Vienna

A visit to Parliament on the Ringstraße, which you can also tour, is a must for any trip to Vienna. The building is of great importance for Austria in terms of architecture and politics.

As of 1883, it was the first permanent seat of the Imperial Assembly, the predecessor of today's parliament, which is a bicameral institution.

According to the Greco-Roman design plans of architect and master builder Theophil von Hansen, the Parliament building with its columns of white marble evokes the image of an ancient Greek temple. It is also no coincidence that the figures of Socrates, Plato, and Plutarch on the roof of the building remind us of the great thinkers of the first large democracy.

In front of Parliament is a magnificent Pallas-Athena fountain, whose allegorical figures symbolize the four large rivers of Old Austria. In the middle of the fountain on a high pedestal stands Pallas Athena, goddess of wisdom.
